Gary's 9 Peaks Challenge

From 19-21 July, Gary will be completing three different Three Peaks Challenges around the UK on three consecutive days to raise money for Cruse IOM. In those three days, he’ll do over 1,000 miles of driving from the Yorkshire Dales up to the Scottish Highlands and back down to the Brecon Beacons, 64 miles (102 km) of walking and almost 7,000 metres (22,865 feet) of climbing. To compare, Mount Everest is 8,848 metres and Mount Kilimanjaro is 5,895 metres.

Day 1 - 19 July - The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

  • Whernside: 736 metres (2,415 feet)
  • Ingleborough: 723 metres (2,372 feet)
  • Pen Y Ghent: 694 metres (2,277 feet)

Day 2 - 20 July - The National Three Peaks Challenge

  • Ben Nevis: 1,345 metres (4,413 feet) - Scotland’s highest mountain
  • Scafell Pike: 978 metres (3,209 feet) - England’s highest mountain
  • Snowdon: 1,085 metres (3,560 feet) - Wales’ highest mountain

Day 3 - 21 July - The Welsh Three Peaks Challenge

  • Snowdon: 1,085 metres (3,560 feet)
  • Cadair Idris: 893 metres (2,930 feet)
  • Pen Y Fan: 886 metres (2,907 feet)

Gary’s the first person to admit that this sounds like madness. But it also sounds like a lot of fun, and he’ll be assisted by his friend Steve who will be doing all the driving, cooking, medical support, and encouragement.

If you'd like to support Gary, he's set up a JustGiving page for this challenge. If you'd prefer to donate another way, please contact us.

Gary will be sending us updates and photos when he can during the three days, so you can keep up to date by checking our Facebook or Instagram pages.

Good luck, Gary!
