Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How can counselling help me?
Counselling with Cruse provides an opportunity to talk about grief in a safe and understanding environment.
Your counsellor will help you explore your feelings about your loss and, at your own pace, to work through the pain of your grief.

How do I arrange to see a counsellor?
Just phone us on 668191. We will take a few details and a counsellor will contact you within 48 hours.  You can then arrange to meet a convenient time, whether daytime, evening or weekend

What will counselling involve?
Usually your counsellor will come to visit you at home. If this isn’t possible, we can arrange for you to come to our office in Onchan.

The first session will be for you to decide if counselling is what you want. If so, you can arrange to meet for several sessions at intervals to suit you both.

Sessions usually last about an hour.

Will it be confidential?
All counselling takes place within a strict code of confidentiality. Nobody needs to know you are receiving counselling. Information will not be given to family members or other professionals without your agreement.

There are extreme circumstances in which a counsellor may need to break confidentiality and this will be explained in your first session.

What will it cost?
The counselling service which Cruse offers is free. However, we are only able to offer this service because of the donations we receive. All contributions are greatly appreciated.

Are Cruse Bereavement Support Volunteers qualified?
All Cruse Bereavement Support Volunteers are trained by Cruse Bereavement Care and have ongoing supervision and training.
All Bereavement Support Volunteers work to set standards and adhere to the code of ethics of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

What if I don’t want to meet someone face to face?
We can also arrange regular telephone counselling sessions at intervals to suit you.

What if I am unhappy with any aspect of Cruse’s service?
Please talk to us about it and we will do our best to put things right. We really want to know about any problems so that we can continue to improve our service.

Cruse has a disciplinary procedure; we will gladly send you a copy which will provide full details of options.

Who can Cruse help?
Help is offered to anyone who is bereaved, regardless of age, race, religion, disability, gender or sexual preference.
